The Silver Badge – Practice Development Coaching in Motivational Interviewing
The Silver Badge is intended for people who wish opportunities for extensive and focused practice with the skills introduced within the Bronze Badge and to receive personal coaching and feedback to advance implementation of MI into work practice.
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Start practising Motivational Interviewing to strengthen motivation for change
- Discuss the application of Motivational Interviewing within own work setting
- Identify existing strengths in Motivational Interviewing and areas to develop
- Demonstrate understanding of MI theory and practice through written analysis of a transcribed Motivational Interview
Skilled Level: The skilled level specifies the practice-specific knowledge and skills expected of practitioners who have direct or substantial contact and responsibility for people affected by substance use, and who are responsible for direct care or treatment of people affected by substance use. The ‘skilled’ level would typically apply to those in roles where there is responsibility for planning and delivery of support, care, or treatment.
Testimonies from previous participants:
“Previously, I felt I understood the theory of MI but this coaching has deepened my understanding. I now also feel much more confident in putting this into practice. The small group coaching and opportunities to practice the skills were invaluable in developing my understanding and skills.”
“MI has made me look at my current practice and evaluate where I can improve. I have enjoyed learning the skills in more detail so that I can improve my interactions with patients. And in turn, hopefully improve their outcomes.”
